It's a weather station at the radar ball at the top of Great Dun Fell

Geographic inaccuracies get my wick, there's always some when the media report on an area you know well. I remember when Carlisle got flooded, they were reporting on villages 15 miles away as suburbs, not to mention mis-spelling the names of the rivers. This is how Scawfell Pike ended up as Scafell Pike you know, the OS misspelt it and everyone else just copied.

I take it that if we were going to get strong winds they'd have happened by now?

Remarkably uneventful if so.

Just a standard system like we see several of most winters here, thankfully. Not overly windy, although pretty wet.

I know  there  is an element of "better safe than sorry" with these warnings and  certainly other parts of the country have had it a lot worse, but  IMBY the ratio of "fair enough"  to "WTF" is not favourable to the extent that I'm starting to  hear a few sneers at the warnings which is hugely dangerous IMHO.

A nice summary of the wind speeds and rain totals from this storm from the Met Office at the link below. A significant winter storm but nothing especially unusual for this time of year.

The highest wind speeds were where one would expect them to be including Needles Old Battery and Capel Curig both exceeding 90mph. Plenty of locations seeing an inch or more of rain.
