We have heavy snow falling now, its been moderate since about 7am this morning, topping up last nights and leaving a good 4 - 5 cm so far. Much less on the ground as you drop down from the hills but still falling as snow.

Nothing falling but still a good 16-18 cm lying cover

Moderate snow in Gildersome, Leeds.

Temperatures must be marginal though as it's barely topping up the existing cover.

intensity related here. If its light and patchy its drizzle or sleet, if it heavier its snow as it is now with mod snow falling.

A view from Sheffield at lower altitude. What a difference the elevation makes - there's a few cm there but nothing like even 100m higher.

For lower elevations this is nowhere near the Boxing Day fall, but for higher elevations it must be close.

And as for the person in the bottom photo, it makes you wonder.....

Boxing Day and now today, 6" each time, and a few snow showers in between each event, not bad at all

The higher parts of Sheffield have done well, but at least it has snowed on the lower parts of the City even if you haven't had the depth..

With previous snowfalls the hills here above 250-300m may well have close to a foot of snow as they already had 2-3" before this snow dump.

Extremely marginal conditions in South Manchester, and overall a fairly disappointing event.

Started snowing lightly last night about 8pm, although no accumulation, just wetted the ground.

Generally dry overnight but woke up at 7am to rain, not even a hint of sleet. Throughout the morning it has become more wintry with a mix of rain, sleet but also some heavy snow mixed in. Again, no accumulation.

The problem hasn't been a lack of precipitation, far from it, it just hasn't been cold enough. I can totally see how Sheffield and the Peaks are getting clobbered.

It just goes to show, Manchester can get heavy frontal precipitation when the wind is from the E/SE - other parameters must also come into play. Incredibly complex!

A good six inches here on the border between Halifax and Huddersfield. Just tried to get on to the M62 but it's at a standstill. Heavy snow since about 8 am. Mr Hudson will be getting some grief on Look North tonight as he was fairly adamant it was due to be further south than it has. Just goes to show that forecasting snow really is the trickiest forecast to get right.

Relentless heavy snow and numerous accidents now on the main roads. Most local schools now closed including my daughters so I'll have to battle through and head back on to the tops to drop her at home, hopefully I can get some pics en-route to post this afternoon. Really didn't expect anything like this!

Continual moderate snowfall not adding too much to what's on the ground, but probably the worst it's been since it started.

Just as the MetO warning expires.

Here in Wolverhampton we too have exactly the same as Boxing Day.  Absolutely sod all!!!!!    We seem to have sat in the eye, so-to-speak, with all the precipitation passing us by in every direction.  C'est la vie.  Such is life in this area.  Not the best in any set-up.

Keep the pics coming guys n gals.
