By my calculations the CET now stands at 16.22C including today.

That is as low as it will go. A very mild night tonight and then we see something of a warm up over the next few days.

Currently expecting the CET to peak at 16.70C on the 17th.

It is then expected to dip back to 16.46C by the 24th.

So the question of whether we finish with at least 16.8C in order to get the warmest summer in the CET area since 2006 is very much in the balance. It will all depend on what the weather does in the final week of the month. But at the moment it looks like we could come up short.

Another surge of warmth expected Tuesday onwards, with warm nights; this could lift us above 17C, despite a cool weekend to come.

Yes, as Bertwhistle pointed out, we are finally in for a good chance of having a 17-degree August, which would make this the warmest August since 2004. This is certainly is overdue!

Here are the latest numbers for August. My calculations are currently running about 0.2C below the Hadley provisional. It is touch and go whether we make it to 17C. Current prediction shows us getting to 17C by the end of next week but then dipping back slightly by the end of the month. If the heat really builds and sticks around next week then we will get to at least 17.0C. But if the real heat fails to materialise as it did this week then we will probably finish in the 16's.

Currently I estimate a finishing number of 16.93C.

A cool day tomorrow followed by an average day on Sunday. Then we are relatively warm for the rest of the month, with Wednesday and Thursday particularly warm.

Thanks for the update & stats GW. 16.9C wouldn't be bad for the summer overall- I guess that would be slightly above average for the 3 months combined.
