Only creeping up slowly. Shows how this heatwave has been limited to the South East, so only Rothamsted showing the benefit.

The CET is biased towards the West, with Stoneyhurst really having no relationship with Central England. So the warmest summer months on the CET will always be Easterly and S-Easterly dominated. None of the 3 CET stations are affected by North Sea muck either.

They are of interest to climatologists studying UK climate change over the centuries but even the Met Office use UK national and regional analyses and not CET in most of their public pronouncements

Whether the Met Office version of CET reflects the actual stations used by Prof Manley is another issue and Philip Eden was often critical of whether these 3 stations currently used provided an accurate continuity of the original data series. He often published his own version of the CET and how much it differed from the Met Office figures

I think the three stations used for the CET generally represent a good average. I live quite a distance from any of those stations but the CET reflects my local temperatures here in the East Midlands. While the South has been enjoying a heat wave this past week, it's been very warm here but not hot and I dare say Stonyhurst further North has been even cooler.

We used to follow Hadley and Manley on here and sometimes Eden and they didn't differ much but the competition is run using the official Meto Manley figures to avoid any confusion.

It is broadly accurate for England's population. The SE is naturally warmer than the rest of the country in summer so is by no means representative of the nation as a whole.
