So, in the last 50 years, there have only been 8 summers warmer than this (CET). We beat 1984 and 1990, both full of great summer memories, as well as the recent pretender, 2013. Well done 2016.

Apologies but I have been very busy for the last couple of weeks and am now away on holiday for the next week. So there will be a further significant delay before I can post up the results for August.

Sorry for the delay but here are the final stats and tables for August.

Overall a decent month with the first 17C CET for over 10 years since 2004. However, the minimum CET was only the warmest since 2012 which pegged the overall mean back a little.

The summer was the warmest since 2006 and the 39th warmest in the more than 360 year CET series. Only 0.5C above the 1981-2010 mean though so nothing special but a decent summer nonetheless.

Annual CET competition - August update

Yet another month where the average prediction error was really quite low. It is very tight now at the top of the table after our leader had a relatively high prediction error compared to others in the top 10.

No change in the top 3 as Frank H holds on just ahead of springsunshine and Essan. Only 1C separates the top 15 so all to play for in the final third of the year.

Cheers, GW - great stuff.

I'll be sinking back down the table after being far too conservative in my September guesstimate.

Thanks GW for the time and effort you put into this. I've always watched this competition from afar in previous years, but fancied having a go this year and after a shaky start have found a bit of form. Not convinced it will last, but I am enjoying the ride.

0.03C out! Shame September is going to add a huge chunk to my cumulative error at this rate...

Could be even tighter after September, with no-one going for below average- I suspect that doesn't happen too often. Proud to be in top 15.  Obliged that you do this every month and so many clearly enjoy it.
