Hubby and I were noting more than average berries on trees and hedgerows and hoping it’s not a sign of a hard winter to come. Sod’s law it will be as the build of our granny annex starts in November.  We’ve planned for air source heat pump and solar with battery storage to keep our heating bills down.  But probably won’t benefit this winter, depending on how long the build takes, which depends on good weather.

We are having a heat pump installed in the next couple of weeks. I hope the builders managed to get the roof watertight before the 40+mm of rain yesterday!

The longer summer can hold on the better. Many people will be brought to their knees from 1st October when average monthly energy bills exceeded £200.


Theres a campaign group cancelling their direct debits. Risky but could be the only way to force companies to stop being so greedy. 
Thousands of elderly will die this winter scared of turning their heating on. 
We should all pray for a mild one.

Anyway, still looking like the warm/hot weather is going to return. Agree with others, I hope this is the mildest winter on record. Not because of fuel bills, but because I despise winter

Surely animals can only react to current weather and not predict the future ??
Otherwise they should be posting on here. .
I am actually looking at the autumn months and wondering if one will come in below average for temps.
We have not had a below average month on the CET since August 2021 by my calculations and that in itself is quite staggering .
If it doesn't happen then the race for warmest year on record is going to turn into a procession

06z looking hot, and the rain for Sunday and Monday has disappeared for the south. So basically we had no rain at all yesterday and a small amount on Tuesday, barely got down to the roots

If 35C+ was possible at the start of September 1906 then I certainly think getting close to 40C is possible in late August in a perfectly calibrated set up.
Unlikely to actually materialize of course.

I'd normally regard these comments as off topic - But in this case given the seriousness of all that has gone on this year I've let them go.  However, I don't want to see any abusive or nasty comments or they will be removed and ban warnings or more will be the order of the day.

I have not use the models but now lately I am to view for warmth to keep going as those uppers of -16C in Greenland are very dangerously close to attack UK if winds from the NW but thankfully no charts show direct NW flow.  We usually see -5C in Greenland by end of August but today charts show -16C under near full mid-August sun there.

Depends what time of the day it's modelled for.


What you tend to see is the cold uppers reforming at night and then increasing again during the day. Very common during latter August and September around that locale.

Back to the models, and I note we are sniffing warm or very warm again down south. Part of me wants summer to wind down although I am liking the fact that August is bossing it, as it should.
