Starting to feel the enthusiasm drain away. Of course it’s not wise to say Winter is over. But I’ve seen this script before.

John Hammond on LBC radio this morning remarked that the second half of the month could turn drier and somewhat colder and implied  large areas of Europe are experiencing exceptional cold and this may impact our climate moving forward?

I've just seen the clip on GB News and he did seem fairly confident that cold air could return later in December. His latest tweet though suggests signs for December remain elusive. So who knows.

Be nice just to get a cold snap in January...last time saw snow falling in January was 2013 and I'm sure that was preceded by the usual zonal set up....think Brian might be on the money with a cold February...one like 78 would be nice...

Is this a old-school easterly which I see before me,
The CAA toward my hand? Come, let me clutch thee.
I have thee not, and yet on my screen I see thee still
Art thou not, fatal vision, sensible
To feeling as to sight? or art thou but
A dagger of the mind, a false creation,
Proceeding from the heat-oppressed brain?

That's me doing my best Lady Macbeth every winter since 1997!

Not much cause for excitement on this morning's runs.

Bit until the Met Office remove the line "Perhaps a greater chance of a longer cold spell late in the period" from their long-ranger I am not giving up hope of a seasonal Xmas period.

(So, this afternoon then!)

I don't see any change this evening. GEFS and ECM ENS 12Z updates both look quite poor. That means we're left with teleconnections or analogues if either are your thing. Also, the fact that often winter bites after Christmas rather than before. With all that said, the reality is we can barely string 2 months out of 3 below CET in recent years. Therefore, why the hell would anyone realistically expect a cold winter if they're playing the percentage game.

EC 46 sub seasonal also on the January band wagon.
Rather have them on board than not. Have not seen a mid winter profile for UK and Europe like that since I don't know when.

The PV is stuck between Canada and Greenland. MLB seems to be growing, but the block can’t see to move much. No man’s land seems to be the order of the day at the moment - perhaps that’s not a bad thing
