Possible signs of something that could be classified as "warm" in about 10 days but we've been there before!

Don't write off a first-half-year month on its first half performance.
Note that June 1989 to 'today' (11th) the CET mean was 10.78°C - colder than this year. By then signs of a change were in sight of course, but this does illustrate how things can switch. 1989 ended on 14.4 for the start of a pretty good overall summer.
Another reminder is 1995- to the 16th the mean was just 12.04 (so 12.0 rounded).
Month ended on 14.2 and we of course know what the summer did!

I can just about vaguely remember June 1991, very little though I was at the time .
Some very cool and wet days there , and a look back through the CET reveals that it was one of the few months since 1990 to be in the exceptionally cold category and within the top 10 coldest of all time

The only others being May 1996, Dec 2010, March 2013 . Goes to show what is still achievable in a warmer climate with enough of the right synoptics

Does anyone have a record of when 30C was first hit over the last 10 or 20 years or so.

We could feasibly go the entire month without getting there, is that unusual these days?

I suspect it will warm up significantly after this week and we may even end up above the 1961-90 average for the umpteenth month runningUserPostedImage

Not hitting 30c in June is quite a frequent /easily achievable thing .
It's not hitting it over the entire summer that is almost unheard of

It was only once the solstice passed that summer 1995 really kicked off and it ended up becoming one of the best ones in UK weather history.

It would have been interesting to see (if weather forums actually existed back then, of course) what people were saying about that summer in June, versus what they were saying about it at the end of August...

So it's no wonder that I forget the early part was cool as we only dressed our newborn in a baby vest and nappy for the first 3-4 weeks of his life, as it was too warm for much else.
