We have 11 days of data (including today) left. Can it make 16? It was warm in the S and SE last night and there don't appear to be any cold nights in the forecast. There are also suggestions of a bit of a warm-up midweek and some further warmer weather around month's end.

If it does reach 16 it'll be 2 out of 3 for this summer's months when it's been pretty disappointing, with a second half flourish to make it average.

(Down here it's 0.4 below normal for July, 91-20, or 1.1 above the old 61-90 figures. It's going to end up above average for both, I reckon, as we have another burst of warmth midweek.)

Interesting to note that the last sub 16C July CET was 2020 (15.8) . This was of course the lockdown summer that many people like to remember as having wonderful weather. May was exceptional that year, capping off the sunniest spring on record. June was also fairly warm but July less so.  August had that exceptionally long strong heatwave early on (34C plus on 6 days in a row) and was certainly a warm overall. Overall though the summer was duller and wetter than normal across the UK

I remember the lockdown year as having an amazing April and May (a much better May than this year's much duller and wetter record breaker) and decent June, July as being very poor apart from that insanely hot final day or 2, and August was 2 weeks of exceptional heatwave (1995 or 97 style ) then wet and thundery but still warm.
September had some decent hot weather too. All in all pretty much a solid run let down only by July.

I now feel more confident of a 16+ July. Although last night was cooler, tonight looks warm across the board, with 14-18 mins expected. Even with only 20 maxes at best tomorrow, that will keep the daily figure up. A couple of average days then some CET warmth again Monday to Wednesday. I reckon 16.2 to finish.
