Sunny, with a few bits of high cloud around. Almost calm, but that won't last!
12.0/dew 11.1 after an overnight low of 9.4. We've had one night each July over the past few years that's just dipped below 10 and last year's was also on the morning of the 7th.

Yesterday's high was 18.8, between 3 and 4C below average.

Has been dull with outbreaks of rain so far this morning, some of the rain was heavy at times giving me 8.0 mm so far today. It's only just now that light levels are just starting increasing. 14.7 C & mid 90% H but winds are much lighter.

After a mostly cloudy start to today with just the odd bright or sunny interval at times, we have just had our first heavy shower of the day here in NW Edinburgh.

Currently around 16°C here in Edinburgh.

A remarkable feel to things here, considering it's July - at 4PM it's dark enough to need lights on indoors, and outside there's not even a hint of warmth from the sun. As it's so high in the sky this time of year, that's a very rare thing indeed - you can usually still feel it even through overcast skies.

It's presently 15.5, dew 11.1, with a steady breeze from the WSW - I won't say it feels cold, as it doesn't, but it *does* feel different to most summers I can remember - a bit like the heady days of the 80s, at a push, but even then you could usually feel a kick from the sun.

Right now (and no, it won't last) it feels more like an October day, judging by how dark it is (which is a result of torrential rain to the north).
Talking of rain, today's total is 6.8mm, most of which fell in an hour earlier on - with a peak rate of 145.8mm/hour, more typical of a heavy thunderstorm... and it was all rain too, no hail, as I was watching.

Down to 14.1, dew 11.1 now as some rain arrives... still gloomy and the wind's picked up. It continues to be remarkable and I'm enjoying every minute! 😍It's just so, so rare to see this sort of thing in summer these days... this exact time last year, for example, it was 26C, having reached a high of 29.3 earlier (which goes without much comment these days).

Instead of 8 degrees above the high has been 3 degrees below, but right now - during what's often the hottest part of the day - it's 8 degrees below average.

I'll sleep like a log tonight. 😁

EDIT: Just been outside, as it's fallen further to 13.7, on a whim... went into the wooded bit of my garden (which is full of drip-drip-drips from the recent rain), and, on a whim - inhaled deeply, then exhaled. I could see my breath! Unheard of for July, and this has to be one of the best July days, weather wise, that I can remember. It's just as interesting as that day two years ago when it reached 40C - I hated that, of course, but still found it fascinating to experience.

The sun's back out now, and will be for a while... it's surreal, 13.3C, the sound of rain dripping from the trees, a breeze from the NW - and it feels incredible, fresh despite the warmth of the sun.
I'm glad I experienced it, and having emailed a friend I've found he's the same: he's been out with his dog, enjoying the novelty of a summer's day which isn't humid, stuffy and warm.
EDIT: Up to 13.7 as I was writing this post... no surprise, really, as it simply can't stay 8 degrees below normal for long, not when the sun's still relatively high in the sky.

Sunny, with a bit of high cloud, calm. Much as any other summer's morning, but it's still colder than average: 10.6, dew 10.0, and with condensation on the outside of windows.

I was out and about earlier, when it was still in single figures, and it was wonderful. It felt fresh (note: not cold), and the air smelled pleasant, rather than that typical summer "inhaling half the Atlantic with every breath" feeling. The birds are singing, there are lots of insects buzzing around, and the ground is wet with dew. You can almost hear the plants growing!

Last night's low was 8.9 and yesterday's high was 19.0 - both around 3C below average.

This lovely interlude will come to an end today, though, with high dew points returning by mid-afternoon. It won't be warm - that will have to wait until Wednesday - but it'll feel much more steamy as a result.

EDIT: 11.1 / dew 10.5 as of finishing my post - it's rising quickly!

Meanwhile, sites such as weatherobs.com only really ever show hourly temperature readings and therefore, aren't showing today's highest reading of the day so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank which is 20.2°C, so today will be our warmest day of this month so far.

In addition to that, a total of 8.4 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank. The Sun is still shining as I write, so today might not end up not being all that far away from being our sunniest day of this year in the end although that sunshine total isn't quite enough for that to be likely to actually happen.
