A better day here in Edinburgh with some decent spells of sunshine at times.

Today is also a little bit warmer than yesterday with the temperature up to around average for the time of year at around 19°C.

Another big fail from the big two models today - GFS and MetO's new one both had a high of 17 or 18 here, respectively, and a cloudy afternoon, with drizzle in the case of GFS. The reality? Sunny spells and it's presently 18.9, dew 11.9. The high so far is 19.8, a couple of degrees above the modelled max and it's been a perfectly fine day for working outside. Indeed, I spent an hour mowing the lawn at lunchtime, taking advantage of the relatively low temperatures and the way it's meant to rain tonight - mowing the lawn in summer just before rain keeps it looking greener, rather than sticking to a rigid schedule.

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank is officially confirmed as 19.9°C, so we have missed out by just a whisker on what would only have been our third 20+°C maximum of this month.

However, this actually makes today our third warmest day of this month so far and given that today's temperature hasn't quite managed to reach 20°C here, this just shows how pathetic this month has been as regards to our temperatures.😡

As I write, the temperature is still holding up at around 17°C here in Edinburgh and it has now started to cloud over a bit after a largely sunny afternoon and early evening.

Today has started off on a dull and overcast note here in Edinburgh but as is usually always the case now, it's still as bone dry as ever and the radar maps continue to show no signs whatsoever of any major rainfall anywhere near here despite what the official forecasts might say.

In addition to that, the temperatures during today though still rather disappointing for this time of the year will nevertheless probably also end up not being as low as forecast because that has been the norm recently, although it will no doubt be a completely different story elsewhere as our borefest goes on with absolutely nothing happening which is even remotely interesting in terms of our weather.

Currently, the temperature here in Edinburgh is around 12°C which is actually already not all that far below today's officially forecast maximum for here.

Lets have a walking weekend in the Yorkshire Dales they said.......Lets go in mid summer they said....Swaledale will be lovely!
Yesterday: Grey, cold, must have been 9 or 10 C at 300m and only 14 C Max in the valley
Today: Grey, cold, 10 C. Hill tops in swirling mist, heavy drizzle setting in for the day on a fresh northerly
I missed out on Edinburgh's sun yesterday, in fact I've not seen any sun since Wednesday. Another weekend ruined by this vile, putrid weather. 🤢🤮.....sorry, going into Richard mode
We are getting ready for the walk anyway, warm fleeces and waterproofs and hot flasks...pretty much as we do for our winter walks.....hope the fire's going in The Red Lion

So it rained lightly for the full 8 miles of our walk. Maximum temperature today just 13 C in Reeth but only 10 C at 300m. I wore gloves and wool hat the whole day!
Yet again, many maximum temperatures in Scotland and Northern England have been between 11 and 14 C
Yet again these areas are the coldest places in the whole of Europe and West Russia in mid July (source Weatheronline) 😲
Back down in Reeth the chimneys are smoking as fires are lit and the fire is going in the pub! It's just like November!

Rather unusually, the forecast appears to have got our temperatures just about right as the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank is currently only 13.3°C which is as high as it's been all day today.

This means that if today's official maximum temperature ends up being no higher than that in the end, today will go down as the joint coolest day so far of that ongoing complete non-event which is this so-called "summer".😡

It's quite gloomy and dismal here in Edinburgh but for the most part, the rain just keeps on refusing to fall here, so it's no surprise that SEPA have placed us at the early warning level as regards to water scarcity.

Another miss here, with the 18 and 19 from GFS and MetO raw ending up as 21.4, and a good deal more sunshine this afternoon than was forecast (there are some beefy showers to the south, but whether they get here before they fizzle is moot - I reckon we'll just end up with a few dots of rain).

Currently partly cloudy, 17.8, dew 13.5.

Cloudy and occasionally damp today and feeling cool once again. A high of 13.9°C and currently 12.2°C and cloudy. Pathetic for midsummer.

Today's maximum temperature up to 18z at Edinburgh Gogarbank is officially confirmed as 13.6°C but that is also the current temperature as I write, so we might still not have yet actually reached our peak temperature for today as the official timeframe for that actually goes all the way up to 10am BST (09:00 UTC) tomorrow morning.

Nevertheless, that is still absolutely appalling for what is supposed to be high "summer"😡 and to make matters even worse, it's now also finally started raining here in Edinburgh.

Just watched the evening BBC forecast and looks like a 3rd day of cold rain tomorrow for our weekend in the Dales 🤢🤢🤢
Speaking to fellow tourists in front of the flickering fire tonight, two main subjects, the football and this horrendous summer were discussed. 13 C was the Max again today
Central heating on at the B&B thank goodness

Here in Edinburgh, most of the rain has stayed to our south and east and so today's total so far has amounted to no more than a mere 1.6 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 1.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

In addition to that, NE Scotland which has had quite a bit of rain just lately has largely escaped that on this occasion according to the radar maps.

As far as the temperature is concerned, it's currently around 12°C here in Edinburgh and it was winter just now, I would therefore be talking about the temperatures refusing to drop.

In addition to that, tomorrow is forecast to be warmer than today here (that wouldn't exactly be hard) though only with around average temperatures. Nevertheless, the Met Office are forecasting a temperature of 21°C here by Monday which would give us our warmest day of this month so far if that happens.

I have said on many occasions that the weather doesn't in general appear on average to have been as bad here as it has been elsewhere and if the latest forecasts are correct, today may well end up just being a small and temporary blip in that regard.
