Fine detail of ppn type aside, the longer term looks much of the same and unerringly toeing the line of the EC monthly anomalies yet again - average to slightly above temps and above average precipitation going into March.
I’ll be glad to see the back of this pitifully mild and wet winter.

Be it rain or snow, it really isn't looking at all good for the already heavily saturated parts of the UK, especially Wales and Cumbria.

Yeah just seen Met Office forecast for the week on Facebook. Straightforward cold, sunny spells, wintry showers N England northwards with snow building up on hills (its already here!)
Thursday Friday and beyond small disturbances will run across the south with snow possible North London, north of the M4 into south Midlands, even beyond the weekend!

Looks like front page chart is showing a snow row of 20 (of 23) for London

More interestingly, after initial 2 zeros, there is only one more zero

Quite rare for London to have a snow row count for virtually a fortnight

Of course, no guarantee of falling snow, and even less likely to settle on low ground

Snow at this time of year doesn't really interest me. It's either not going to settle or in the unlikely event it does settle a rapid thaw sets in immediately. I'd much rather have some early Spring warmth like last year.

I think the immediate concern will be flooding if the depressions track as forecast on the 12z GFS.

850hPa temperatures, precipitation and the snow row

According to the above chart, it looks as though we might finally at long last, be about to get a bit of a break from all of the almost incessant rain which we have getting during this month, albeit only until around the end of the month. I also like the way in which the rainfall spikes are diminishing in intensity as we go further into March but since that is mostly in the unreliable time frame, I'm not really taking that too seriously at the moment.

However, isn't it just like the thing that just we come to the end of the meteorological winter and approach the start of spring, the overall trend now suddenly becomes a bit colder, after a so-called "winter" which has hardly delivered anything in the cold weather throughout? It's nice to see cold and wintry weather appear, ideally with a bit of snow but at the end of the day, that is probably something which I would rather have been seeing around two or three months ago rather than right now.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Very satisfied with developments. I think winter is about to start and will run on for a good few weeks.

Looking at the Met Office App for Thursday - Sunday this week for the London area there is no sign of snow or low temperatures indeed it is showing a max of 8- 10 degrees for this period with rain showers interspersed with winds from the south yet the forecast on the TWO site shows markedly lower temperatures and snow for some of us during these days. Rather confusing if one is planning events etc....

I mean seriously do posters on here and the other forum really think they are better than the professionals. Its the same with the posters spouting out teleconnections this and teleconnects that yet they really haven't a scooby do.

The Met office forecast for this winter season was bang on the ball yet in the Autumn many (including myself ) questioned their bullishness of a mild to very mild and unsettled winter giving a 50 to 60 percentile probability. Not often you see them that bullish about any given forecast yet i did not see one single long range forecast saying we would see a very positive AO this winter.

One so called or self professed professional on the American forum was claiming success yet he fore cast a neutral AO during the Winter months. Sorry pal that is a big bust in my book. My point of this post being yes these forums can be a form of  great entertainment but at the end of the day we are only amateurs. Lets not kid ourselves.

The 12z GFS has Liverpool with three consecutive days scoring 22 in the snow rows with the 850 bumping along at -7c'ish, then down to 2 for a day as the 850 temp spikes to around +3c, before sinking again as the low pulls in cold air on its back, and we get snow rows of 18 then 20.

I'm expecting no lying snow
