I don't believe them. They were clear on Thursday and Friday that this is our plan. It's all muddy.

Might at least be advisable to stick to paracetamol if you can (and if you have any!)

Wales only +30 which suggests the UK count will be down today. Two questions:

1) How many tested

2) How many deaths / hospitalisations

Deaths tend to be higher in UK hospitals at weekends. I'm not sure what period of time today's update covers.

It has the added advantage of giving one a mild euphoric buzz as well.

There is an useful article in The Times here, which poses the questions they want answers to:

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/uk-coronavirus-strategy-the-questions-boris-johnson-must-answer-at-no-10-press-conference-nqn3wwplv

Why does Britain’s response look so different from other countries’?

What is the government expecting from herd immunity and how are we hoping to use it?

What is our testing strategy and how will it keep on top of cases?

What are the uncertainties in the government modelling?

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Those are all good questions which deserve answers, but this is the takeaway paragraph from the article for me:

"The UK strategy is driven by an epidemiological model that has concluded self-isolation of those with coughs and fevers, plus quarantining families where one member is sick, will together halve the peak. Shielding the elderly could cut deaths by a third. Yet banning mass gatherings will reduce the peak by only 5 per cent, while school closures by only 10-15 per cent."

Please remember at this time of heightened anxiety, let's stick to facts and not rumour, maybe start a separate thread for information and another for discussion.

I believe one of the issues we have at the moment is the media is still giving opinion as well as information, when we are past that, and really should be giving information for people.

Rolls-Royce cars to be asked to build ventilators:

Car manufacturers asked to make ventilators

Car manufacturers are the latest firms to be asked to contribute to the fight against coronavirus.

The UK government is asking the likes of Rolls Royce, Ford and Honda to help build medical equipment, including ventilators, amid growing concern about a shortage of the life-saving equipment.

Downing Street says it wants the manufacturing sector "to come together to help the country".

But the BBC's business editor, Simon Jack, says manufacturers are far from ready to switch production.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-51896168

Edit: Even the establishment's voice say this:

Although firms stand ready and able to produce more ventilators, a lack of clarity on design specifications and component sourcing mean that production remains many weeks away.

The UK government has been caught with its pants down

Sounds like a good idea wonder if others will follow

An Iceland store in Northern Ireland is opening one hour early to allow older shoppers to buy food when it is quieter amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Iceland said it was not a company policy, but it was allowing individual stores to decide how best to meet the needs of shoppers in their local areas.
