All signs are predominantly in the language of the region in India. Only a few are additionally written in English.  Unless it’s changed since this time last year when I was there.

Lombardy metal workers will go on strike on Wed and banking unions threaten nationwide strikes. They accuse the Italian government of not taking strict enough measures against the disease and endangering the wellbeing of their members.

Germany's infection curve may be flattening - health chief

There are signs Germany's infection curve - reflecting rise in the number of cases - may be becoming less steep, according to the head of the country’s public health institute.

"We are seeing signs that the exponential growth curve is flattening off slightly," Lothar Wieler, president of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for disease control, told reporters.

"But I will only be able to confirm this trend definitively on Wednesday. But I am optimistic that the measures are already having an effect, which is very early because they have only been in place for a week."

Efforts to reduce the spread of the virus in the country have included school closures, hygiene measures such as hand-washing and restrictions on public gatherings.

The RKI reported earlier on Monday that the country now had 22,672 cases of Covid-19 - an increase of 4,062 on the previous day - and that 86 people had died so far.

I'm still convinced there is a case that we wont get hit so hard because we aren't land locked with another country ( apart from the obvious )

Nothing scientific obviously , just a feeling our numbers will stay low …..in comparison to what is being banded about

****SUPERMARKET UPDATE** Been to the Sainsburys here and there must have been some decent deliveries, it was relatively well stocked away from the pasta/toilet roll/tinned food aisles. The wine area was completely empty - had been gradually diminishing for a while and i guess the pub closure caused a final clear out. Fruit and veg was normal.

Saw a great example of social distancing in a long post office queue which came out the door and down the street, everyone spaced 2 metres apart.

What you and a few others are saying is that the government has to treat everyone like children and put rules in place that deal with the most stupid, ignorant, selfish behaviour.

Your first point: if restaurants are shut then hotels should have been restricting meals to residents. If restaurants are shut people should realise that means no eating out.  Two groups at fault here, not the government.

Schools: they are not ‘half closed’. The message is clear enough. The problem is people not taking personal responsibility and trying to avoid being inconvenienced.

These measures can’t work unless people take personal responsibility. There aren’t enough police or army personnel to enforce rules that people are determined to flout.

TBH this blame game is starting to annoy me.

As a matter of interest, how quickly are test results coming through? By that I mean, if I have a Covid-19 test today, how long will it be before I get the results or the result is fed into national statistics? Apparently, it's taking up to 7 days to get results back in Ireland. If that's common in other countries too, it means that there is a real lag before trends can be ascertained.

Big % jump in Romania today. Apparently, as you might expect, a lot of Romanians live and work in Italy and have been desperate to go home since the outbreak there. Romania has been urging them to stay put, but as anyone would appreciate, their only incentive has been to get out and go home:

Unfortunately, there will be a surge of cases inside Romania on account of returnees.

"Western Australia on Monday banned passengers on board the Swiss-owned MSC Magnifica cruise ship from disembarking.

Of 1,700 passengers on board the ship, more than 250 have complained of respiratory illnesses. It was due to dock at Western Australia's Fremantle port as early as Monday evening."

I have less than zero sympathy for brain dead morons who still boarded cruises in recent weeks. Mark you - the WHO should have strongly advised against such activities back in January.

Tesco delivery arrived this morning. A few substitutions but all pretty much like for like. Managed to get paracetamol, pasta and toilet roll! (2 x 9 rolls instead of the requested 24 pack, but not bad!).

Come on Xioni - given the size of their population and the size of their response, are we really supposed to believe that only 80K confirmed positive or their official death rate?

Complete nuts.

None of the official stats are anything like representative of the true picture. The one country which is perhaps most credible on this score, is South Korea, because of the level of testing done, the contact tracing done and the transparency of their results.
