At the time I thought it was totally absurd to allow that match to proceed, Saint. Prof John Ashton, who is a Liverpool fan, made reference to this when he appeared on Question Time the following night.  IIRC, Spanish domestic football was playing played behind closed doors for some time before then.

The following night, there were a few thousand German fans in Glasgow for the first leg of the Rangers v Bayer Leverkusen Europa tie which the Germans won 3-1 (this was Rangers last match before the shutdown). This was after German authorities had made the decision to now allow any fans to travel from Scotland to Germany the following week for the return leg.

UEFA has been as complacent in all this as any government has in this crisis.

Dr Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said the effect of social-distancing measures had prompted him to revise his projections.

“The real data are telling us it is highly likely we are having a definite positive effect by the mitigation things that we’re doing, this physical separation,” Dr Fauci said in an interview with NBC on Thursday.

This will make the effect of any approach on releasing lockdowns very tough to predict.

He's absolutely right and it was most Countries as well. Last night's Horizon, if you watched it, was a rerun of one broadcast in 2009. It looked at the viruses up till then including smallpox, Sars and Aids. It showed maps and predicted exactly what has happened now. The final conclusion said " From a bio and mathematical point of view another Pandemic is a certainty".

We chose to do nothing. One thing hopefully we will do after this is be more forward thinking. Who would mind paying more tax to build and leave at least four massive regional pandemic hospitals, fully equipped and mothballed ready to go at the drop of the hat. Can easily be afforded. If it's economical to stockpile weapons and not use them then it is economical to do the same with hospitals.

From the BBC ticker:
"China denies 'cover-up' and defends WHO
The Chinese government has rejected “unfair and unjust” allegations that it tried to “cover up” the coronavirus outbreak in the city where it began.
Zhao Lijian, a foreign ministry spokesman, said China had been “open, transparent and responsible” in informing the world about the epidemic.
He said it “took us some time before we knew more about” the virus, which was officially first detected in the city of Wuhan, in Hubei province, late last year.
China is widely considered to have concealed the extent, severity and even existence of Covid-19 during the early stages of the outbreak".

I thought their own doctors were shouting out saying they had something very bad there, but the govt there tried to silence.

19,438 patients were in hospital in the UK yesterday with Covid-19 Dominic Raab has today said it's 16,784 today. Has he missed off hospitals outside of England or are things improving?

The Chinese authorities back then weren't giving a damn about the well being of their own people or that of people elsewhere in the world, and very clearly were doing all they could to cover it up. I simply don't believe them if they are now saying "We didn't know".

Pretty clear that we are not yet at the peak if you look at CC admissions

There been any more news on Dominic Cummings' progress? Have hardly heard anything but it must be 10 days now since he got it.
