First NHS worker, a 59 year old surgeon and father of four, has died at the hospital my wife works at.

Another death chalked up for the criminal lack of PPE for NHS and care workers.

Why do I get the feeling that MH will change the target to the fact we have the capacity to deliver 100k tests.

Still the capacity of 39K is nowhere near the 100k

It seems that the test centres are not in locations that are easy access

Signs of the lockdown beginning to creak a bit?

B&Q's going to open its Gillingham store, as it's an essential retailer. All the rest in Kent will remain closed.

 flying Club Europe,...

sardining on an Easy Jet (and even with the middle seats out it still will be)

(The way to do it, if you're going, is to book Club Europe where they use longhaul planes, i.e. the 777 to Madrid. That gets you a flatbed Club World seat or even, if you're really lucky, a First seat. Now that's the way to social distance!)

Positive cases have been above 4k since the 1st April. So while flat, it’s flat at a high level.

I am concerned it’s not dropped below 4k and suggests while the lockdown has helped, it’s not been adhered to enough.

Sure this is not the case, but you would of thought it should be moving a bit more now. It could be these relaxations are the 'best we can do' and this may be the normal rate for now with such a large base to tap into. No getting away, despite measures people are still going to be infected in supermarkets, and there are plenty of them.

Did anyone see the headline in the telegraph today about Downing Street casting doubt on the 100k testing figure.

Is Hancock going to be the full guy I wonder?

That's because he is a lying little weasel who has been found out. Saying stuff (100,000 tests by end of April etc etc) to get people off your back is not a good strategy for a govt minister.

IMO the only one who has come through this with an enhanced reputation is the Chancellor of The Exchequer.

There is another story, this time in the Huffpost, on the prospects for a vaccine.

https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/coronavirus-vaccine_uk_5e9ea1d5c5b6a486d07ea290?ncid=other_huffpostre_pqylmel2bk8&utm_campaign=related_articles

In that piece it says, "But one of the most important factors to measure for in a vaccine is how long the protection it offers actually lasts. In the case of Covid-19, anything less than a year will not be much use."

But that gave me pause for thought. Surely even if a vaccine was effective for, say, just nine months, by spreading the vaccination programme evenly across the year you'd still have a minimum 75% herd immunity which whilst not preventing some new cases would prevent further epidemics? Obviously the closer you get to a year the higher the level of overall protection; beyond a year it's not a problem (except logistically).

I am actually hoping now that this lockdown will extend into Autumn as it will prove a great eye-opener for the masses.
