Why do I get the feeling that MH will change the target to the fact we have the capacity to deliver 100k tests.

Still the capacity of 39K is nowhere near the 100k

It seems that the test centres are not in locations that are easy access

Positive cases have been above 4k since the 1st April. So while flat, it’s flat at a high level.


I am concerned it’s not dropped below 4k and suggests while the lockdown has helped, it’s not been adhered to enough.

Double counting?! I don't have much confidence in the figures and sure there will be more revisions. In jest I mentioned a couple of weeks back that figures could be altered high which keeps the lockdown in place for longer. If we were showing 1-2k cases, there would be more pressure to relax now. Sure this is not the case, but you would of thought it should be moving a bit more now. It could be these relaxations are the 'best we can do' and this may be the normal rate for now with such a large base to tap into. No getting away, despite measures people are still going to be infected in supermarkets, and there are plenty of them.

There is another story, this time in the Huffpost, on the prospects for a vaccine.

In that piece it says, "But one of the most important factors to measure for in a vaccine is how long the protection it offers actually lasts. In the case of Covid-19, anything less than a year will not be much use."

But that gave me pause for thought. Surely even if a vaccine was effective for, say, just nine months, by spreading the vaccination programme evenly across the year you'd still have a minimum 75% herd immunity which whilst not preventing some new cases would prevent further epidemics? Obviously the closer you get to a year the higher the level of overall protection; beyond a year it's not a problem (except logistically).

IMO the only one who has come through this with an enhanced reputation is the Chancellor of The Exchequer.
