Not that I'd go to a branch right now (or very often at all), but their chips are pretty unique... when I've been to the O2 in London I pop in there. They cook their chips in peanut oil, you see, which not only gives a good taste, but makes them very filling. A small portion is all I ever need!

It's definitely a luxury though and at the rate of maybe one visit a year it's not too bad.

I'm guessing we'll see more of this in the weeks ahead - drive thru McDonalds etc.

I could measure the relaxing of attitudes towards lockdown by a review of takeaways.

We always do a takeaway on a Friday, and that first week, not wanting to venture out, we looked on Just Eat & Deliveroo and there were just a small handful of places open for business, mostly pizza/kebaberies. We ideally wanted Chinese, and the only open option (out of over 20 in all) was a long-standing sit-down restaurant doing deliveries. Paid over the odds for pretty ordinary stuff, but no matter.

The next week, a couple more generally had opened. Then I noticed a chippy on the route back from my parents' house (I do their shopping) was fully open. We went there the following week. That chippy then got swamped with customers - queuing (at 2m gaps) outside and round the corner.

By last week, several Chineses, Indians and chippies around the borough were open fully. All reporting brisk business!

My local is doing fish n Chips x2 for £15 so that’s my Friday night treat sorted.....

Obviously, this relates to Ireland but it's probably relevant to the UK also. The authorities here are happy that transmission rates are now well below 1 here. I would have thought that transmission rates can't be very much higher in the UK as our lockdown regimes are similar(even to the extent of a slight unofficial lifting of restrictions with DIY stores opening and increased traffic in recent days).

I missed that. However, it does suggest that there may be scope to ease the restrictions a little, particularly as the overall figures reduce. Bear in mind that the transmission rate presumably includes settings like hospitals and care homes. If cases in these places could be isolated, you would think that that should further reduce the general transmission rates. Easier said than done, I know.

Red lines are people within 2m and I've been very generous. Far more people in this photo are probably within 2 metres of each other. In any case 2m is not enough. 8m is necessary to avoid the risk.
