Nothing exceptional temperature-wise here. Max yesterday was -1C, which is only the coldest day since January 2019, when we had a max of -2.6C on the 31st (caused by thick freezing fog all day). The low yesterday morning was an unimpressive -3C, so not even the coldest night of the year.
Really quite a disappointing spell locally. No snow and no noteworthy temperatures. Actually looking forward to some milder weather now.
I recall Braemar or Aviemore recording -23C a couple of winters ago, but very cold temperatures there doesn’t make a cold spell exceptional - not like December 2010 when you had temperatures approaching -20C in southern England. You need these sorts of very cold temperatures nationwide before you can start calling a cold spell exceptional, not localised to some Scottish glens.
On another note, I’m very surprised that Aberdeen had their first ice day since December 2010. We have had multiple ice days here since then, even in March (we had ice days in the March’s of 2013 and 2018).
