The lowest official value I have seen so far is -15.6°C although a number of stations in Aberdeenshire have minima below -17°C.

The lowest temperature at Edinburgh Airport according to the overnight half-hourly METAR data which is produced at 20 minutes past the hour and 10 minutes to the hour was -8°C, although that was still more than enough to give us our coldest night of this entire year so far.

Even at Edinburgh Gogarbank though, the overnight minimum temperature was -6.75°C and as I write, the temperature there as at 8am GMT (08:00 UTC) was still at -6.53°C.

We hit the dizzy heights of -8C for 10 minutes before it’s on its way down again , now that’s an ICE day !! , way it’s looking we might not go above freezing until Friday .  Spey is beginning to freeze over, it’s likely that -20C and below could well be achieved tonight as some places already -15 C

Scotland on course for coldest December in a decade

Scotland is on course to record its coldest December in over a decade after temperatures plummeted to -15.7C overnight in Aberdeenshire.

BBC Weather presenter Simon King said the temperature at Braemar made it the coldest since February 2021.
A yellow warning for ice and snow currently covers northern Scotland with the cold spell set to last for 10 days.

Here in Edinburgh, today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was -1.7°C and after doing some research, I have discovered that this makes today the coldest December day there since 22 December 2010 when the temperature didn't rise above -3.5°C there all day.

In addition to that, today has actually also been the first time since back on that same day, that an official ice day has even been recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank during December and this just goes to show how rare such an event is, especially in this modern era where climate change and a warming planet have been such major issues overall.

Max of just -1.7C today which was the lowest since 22/12/10 ☃
Incredible when prior to today, minima hadn't even got that low. -6.4C last night was lowest since only February last year. Should be colder tonight with -6.2C currently but little movement in the past few hours.

Nothing exceptional temperature-wise here. Max yesterday was -1C, which is only the coldest day since January 2019, when we had a max of -2.6C on the 31st (caused by thick freezing fog all day). The low yesterday morning was an unimpressive -3C, so not even the coldest night of the year.

Really quite a disappointing spell locally. No snow and no noteworthy temperatures. Actually looking forward to some milder weather now.

I recall Braemar or Aviemore recording -23C a couple of winters ago, but very cold temperatures there doesn’t make a cold spell exceptional - not like December 2010 when you had temperatures approaching -20C in southern England. You need these sorts of very cold temperatures nationwide before you can start calling a cold spell exceptional, not localised to some Scottish glens.

On another note, I’m very surprised that Aberdeen had their first ice day since December 2010. We have had multiple ice days here since then, even in March (we had ice days in the March’s of 2013 and 2018).

Not exceptional I guess but certainly noteworthy, especially combined with London’s snowfall (and whatever else the spell may yet bring!)

Currently -7°C in my garden and -10°C at the airport.

Low of -5C here, nothing special but looks very wintry with still a fair bit of snow cover and frost on the areas that had melted.

I've recorded -10 C this morning after yesterday's minimum of -9 C and yesterday's maximum of -3 C. Quite something!
I should add again that Blackford is in a frost hollow and doesn't receive sunshine in December and we still have snow on the ground
