Must admit I always struggle with charts when they look cold/chilly but messy - a nice big scandi high with a squeeze of isobars over me is nice and easy. It'll be cold and probably snowy.

A weak ridge of HP over us from Scandi whilst the Atlantic pushes against it, oddly with air that aloft is as cold as that which drifted over from the east, just doesn't look as nice albeit might be snowy for some (inc my part of the world I guess). With no big push of air through I guess it should stay chilly/slack at the surface and anywhere that does get snow could have some noticeably cold nights.

Bit beyond my chart reading to work out specifics, who's most at risk, whether some people will just get cold rain/drizzle, what the likely evolution is etc. but it's certainly interesting. Not quite the winter getting warmer as it goes along set up some of the LRF's were going with

Obviously still time for things to get worse and make it more likely to rain than snow but nice that today has generally seen upgrades after a slow wander away from cold in the preceding days (albeit always still chilly rather than mild).

I wonder if tomorrow will see more of the same or another little flip/swing

Coldest set of ECM UK 12z ens this winter in the mid term IMO.

18z is a significant upgrade in snow and cold as we enter FI at t100+.

Not sure GFS could come up with a better run for cold potential

If the GFS 18z is a leader for the overnight runs there will be a number of people choking on their cornflakes tomorrow morning.

the term ‘modern winter’ really is the most annoying excuse for people’s frustrations.  If this year is what they are referring to, then bring it on, it’s been great around this region and looking good for the next few days.

As I mentioned a few weeks back, a very good friend of mine who lives and works the land has been consistent in his belief that this January and February will be dominated by very cold NWlys and he has been pretty much on the ball to date.

He also believes that the worse is yet to come and it will be generally from the same direction for at least another two weeks.

Been trying to pin him down on his source of information, but just smiles and taps his nose.  Mind you it is rather big.

Been a while since I have watched a proper pub run - the GFS 18Z fits the bill. Stonking cold from start to finish, from the east, the west and the north - no mild sectors.

New world order coming.

Things are getting almost better and better with each run. I think on Saturday is the first wave and much will depend on intensity of precipitation and how fast its moving across. Think this will be just the first wave of attack of what is to come. Bring it on!

Such a shame. Winter is over.  (for the south).

A winter full of disappointments here with only a couple of days of falling sleet or wet snow to show for all of our efforts. Its the end of January now. Its beautiful out there now our second frost of the month has melted.. Time to start getting excited about longer day length and a warming sun.

After tonight's 12z run when the final nail on the latest whiff of an easterly is completely distinguished I shall be taking a one month break from rainbow chasing.

February still offers a great deal of interest for many in the Midlands northwards so please enjoy.

Here in Kent without that mid winter easterly we may as well live in another country.

A very good night to 💤I hope.

Well time will tell, but what fabulous interesting GFS 18z Run. And I also am very pleased indeed with the 12z run from ECMWF.

I hope in next few days we continue to find interesting forecast charts from these as well as the GEM and UKMO- a team effort is what we need. If only this forecast actually happens- I will be super thrilled!!.

On of the weather forecasts has heavy wintry showers of rain and sleet with cold NE winds developing for Sunday and Monday, for Kent in particular.

If that changes to include London as it gets closer and the precipitation turns to indicate snow showers that will be interesting.  The Weather Models seem to be pointing in that direction.

There could be heavy snow falling in many parts of the UK, but we’ll need to keep us updated on here as we get closer to said predictions for days shown to materialise.

Climate is warming up, Scotland and N Ireland and North England still often gets some Winter frost, ice and snow, November to March, but the SE and South UK including S Central England and Wales, together with the West and North through the year, they sometimes get more rain than London and S SE England, where some longer dry fine spells without much heavy rain is seen every year.

The North Atlantic Sea often gets some much Colder Wintry conditions from November to March Months, and Mild SW and South winds tend to be more frequent over the East and SE of North Atlantic Sea, as the Azores High tends to stay in charge.

With this warmth and heat, the Central and South UK has become mostly free of snow and frost.

Astonishing 18Z run from GFS. You’ll be pressed to find a better one in terms of snow potential in recent years.
Now the tricky bit - will it be realised?

Even I would do well out of all that even here at Kent.

However, model outputs are one thing, the reality come the moment will be another thing entirely . . . so, steady as we go.

We have been bitten in the past so many times.
The theme of the last 24 hours is putting us more in the freezer next week, but there are still little important changes going on.
Let's hope those cornflakes don't go soggy tomorrow morning.

Just watched BBC weather forecast at 11pm and they are vary cautions and are just saying possible sleet and temps. for the weekend about 7c.
It felt cold today here. I am not sure they have it right and it will not be the first time.
