Prof John Ashton, a former regional director of public health for north-west England, lambasted a lack of preparation and openness from the government and contrasted Britain’s response to that of Hong Kong.

“They should have been encouraging people to have their own family plans about how they will maintain the family show on the road, who will be taking the kids to school, how do you entertain them in the Easter holidays? They should have been much clearer, sooner, about making it clear that people shouldn’t be travelling so they could cancel their holidays and get their money back on the insurance.

But we are still refusing to close borders - we should have closed down flights to Italy 10 days ago and we should join the Trump ban on flights from Schengenland asap!

But we won't - still stuck in the old mindset, despite Brexit.

P.S. Eastern Europe is stepping up to the plate:

"BREAKING: Czech Republic bans travellers from 15 countries

The Czech Republic has banned travellers from 15 countries, including France, Germany, UK."

For whatever reason, it is 3 or 4 days for the results likely because of the number of tests that are now taking place.

Only reporting what I have been told although this is first hand information

If this had happened a few months ago, do you think we might have revoked / drastically extended A50?

I wonder if we'll extend the transition period?

The announcement by our government to close schools has caused a bit of a stir here. Popped up to our local supermarket a little earlier. No pasta and few potatoes left while a shop assistant was busy restocking shelves to replenish toilet roll stocks. The queues at the chek outs were similar to what you see a day or two before Christmas.

I don't get why people are in a panic about toilet roll. After all, if it's as bad as all that, we'll run out of food too, so no need to worry about toilet roll.

The majority of coronavirus infections may be spread by people who have recently caught the virus and have not yet begun to show symptoms, scientists have found.

An analysis of infections in Singapore and Tianjin in China revealed that two-thirds and three-quarters of people respectively appear to have caught it from others who were incubating the virus but still symptom-free.

The finding has dismayed infectious disease researchers as it means that isolating people once they start to feel ill will be far less effective at slowing the pandemic than had been hoped.

Can't vouch for the authenticity of this, but someone I work with has been speaking with someone with senior links to the Govt.

They said that next week there will be emergency legislation passed through Parliament to close schools from next Friday, along with some other draconian measures. They are trying to downplay the chances of taking such extreme action in order to delay panic amongst the population. They figure that by next Friday, there'll be just 2 weeks until the Easter Hols, so minimising disruption whilst having a 4-week period of no schools and curtailed public events.

I can see the logic in this.
