What matters is deaths. And those are up by around 70%.

Apparently the reason the German death rate is so low is that it doesn't include people with multiple conditions.  So its artificially low I don't know of any other country that does this.

No country or for that matter the WHO has put forward any plans on how to safely "emerge" from lockdown. In reality a 2nd big wave is a very real possibility, although I suppose a country could bounce along between lockdown/emergence until either herd immunity is achieved (which will depend on how many have not contracted the virus before lockdown) or a vaccine is available (probably 18 months).

Does it really matter if there is less testing? You're never going to be able to catch all the infections anyway.
At least it will be mild!

Balancing act. What people have to consider is that having a wrecked economy will be far worse for the vast majority in the long term, than easing through this crisis as best we can in the short term. Even if we get massive numbers of cases like Italy, I personally would not wish for the kind of total lockdown they have undertaken. This virus will burn itself out, whether we close all businesses down or not.

I am also sure that the world economy will bounce back. No doubt, there will be some casualties but this will not be apocalypse now either. There will be unprecedented world wide government action to stimulate the economy. However,  there is a possibility that that stimulus will itself store up problems a little down the track.

I've developed some minor symptoms (it's because my GF is nowhere near as meticulous as I am, so don't worry too much that 'even Q got it' e.c.t.). I'm not convinced I actually have COVID as all my symptoms are intestinal but will keep you posted. No cough or fever as of yet.

My gf has developed a cough though.

The Guardian reports that the Netherlands is going to close schools. That's interesting as they've been following a similar strategy to us so far. Ireland, Germany (second link), France, Belgium, Greece, Poland, Denmark... all of those have or will soon close theirs.

The last link contains this map - red is where all schools have closed as of Friday, yellow where some are closed and grey is where they're still open. My school has been expecting they'll be ordered to close this coming Friday for the past 2 weeks... they could well be right!
