Fascinating report on the foreign pages of today's Times about how China rather than taking a low profile after its behaviour is aggressively building up its military in the South China Sea. The Pentagon wants an extra $16bn to counter it.


My view has always been that China represents a malign threat to our way of life and should be dealt with as a potential adversary rather than the West's new best mate. The pandemic has merely reinforced that view.

without wanting to put a dampener on things... vis a vis Boris' recovery... as I know from my own personal experience with my brother, if you follow someone's condition who is suffering from the more serious form of the virus on an hourly basis...there are huge numbers of ups and downs... I've lost count the number of times that my brother has said he has turned a corner only for the condition to suddenly change track, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse..

As for all these comments about China.. I have a faint memory of someone called Nigel Farage talking up all the trade we could do with China as we didn't apparently need the EU anymore!!

The expected spike in deaths, which is awful beyond expression. It's very easy for the s**theads in society to say "and so", but for each family member this is not the news they've wanted to hear or the grieving they're going through.

Most of those people whose deaths have been reported today would have very likely been infected when shops etc. were still open.

This is not necessarily criticism, it's the cold reality of this awful decease.

Always worth pointing out, since it takes three to four weeks to kill. That is the Italian evidence and it is born out by what we have seen in this country. And when we say three to four weeks - that is from the point of confirmed diagnosis, so the person concerned may have already had the infection for a week prior to that.

 Quite right, the agony of this is that the testicles of death extend far an wide beyond no only immediate family but friends and work colleagues also. Its an awful thing to think about, but soon we all know someone directly or indirectly that has been impacted. This is why its sad to see that so many people can live in this bubble and think it wont affect them.

On a more serious note I was shaken yesterday as I mentioned in yesterdays thread. My ex wife lost a good friend yesterday to COVID 19, another friend shows symptoms and my ex wife is now showing feverish symptoms and is under house quarantine by her doctors orders.
