Note: only France at the moment are also reporting deaths from the virus in care homes, so these additional deaths are not included in the data.

I am not surprised. I've read similar stories from countries in Africa and one from Pakistan.

Chinese money generally comes with Chinese workers, Chinese-made parts and equipment and a tick in the box that says 'Strategic benefit for China'. There's seldom any philanthropic element, from what I've read.

That's   not what I'm talking about - You said you wanted lock-down ended so that people ,with niggley teeth could go to the dentist.   THAT is what will consign people to death.

Anyway, if it turns septic / I get an abscess  and I'm in a great deal of pain our local lot are  operating an emergency service.  That's probably the case everywhere.  Likewise for your other example. If you want a new kitchen  fitted it's tough shit, but if your house is flooding emergency plumbers are still available

If its true that only 2% of the population have had it, then the virus will spread anyway whenever the lockdown is eased. We just have to accept that people will keep dying from this until vaccines are found, but mutations may mean a new vaccine each year.

We may end up having to accept a permanently higher human mortality rate from this new virus

I’ve been astounded by how far China has extended its hold and I don’t think it’s gone down well with the people of those countries. Last year on a tour in Jamaica, our guide pointed out the Mandela highway and wasn’t too impressed that it was being built by the Chinese.

We had the same in Cambodia when touring Sihanoukville.  Everywhere was being developed by the Chinese and the guide said the Chinese were taking over.

Likewise the Boeung Kak lake in Phnom Penh, which was a lovely chilled backpacker area with guest houses lining the lake, got completely destroyed a few years ago after the whole area was sold to Chinese developers who drained the lake and filled it with sand to build more skyscrapers on. Sickening corruption at play everywhere and the locals got virtually nothing.

Same story in Africa, the Chinese build all the infrastructure, roads and railways so they can strip the assets out of the countries.

The near full moon last night was quite spectacular. I went on my daily bike ride around sunset when it was nice and quiet.

Sounds to me that Lockdown will continue well into April

I wish I was exaggerating but I’m not. It’s one of the most shocking changes to a town or city that I’ve ever seen. Just awful.

It will be interesting to see which companies have been doing well, if any, out of this crisis. Food retailers had a bumper month in March with billions in extra sales, although they might now be seeing a dip as they have to limit access. Online wine retailers are doing a roaring trade. Seed companies, too, if my wife’s experience of trying to get some seeds for our garden is anything to go by.

DIY stores that are delivering must be doing well too, as everyone tackles those long overdue jobs.

Has it already been mentioned that France are going to ban outdoor exercise between 10:00 and 19:00?
At least it will be mild!

Has anyone else noticed an alarming rise in the amount of dog sh*t being left on pavements and trails?
Over the years dog owners have been well disciplined at picking up after their dogs, and it was rare to see fouled pavements, but that seems to have changed since the lockdown?

Maybe it’s just my area...

One thing that has certainly increased is fly tipping. With garden waste collection suspended and local tips closed, it was inevitable. I went round a blind bend on my bike at the weekend and there was a pile of old kitchen cupboards etc in the middle of the road. Luckily I was going uphill, not down!

There is no way they can even think about ending the lockdown or even lifting some of the restrictions until there is a clear and continuing decline in both the number of new cases of COVID-19 and the number of people dying from it.

I don't think we are anywhere close to that stage yet at this moment in time.

Covid-19 is becoming a bigger problem in Japan now, according to the latest reports. Apparently more prevalent amongst the young (under 40) who have not been complying with the social distancing rules. Apparently a whole bunch of trainee doctors have tested positive after attending a party..... how stupid is that FFS?

I do actually wonder whether dogs are being taken for walks more often as a result of the lockdown, in some cases dogs that rarely got taken for a walk before (and whose owners are less inclined to clear up their mess, because they are not used to doing so)
