I hope after this, there will be a move to bring manufacturing of certain goods back to this country - primarily those relating to public health emergencies.

Good to see the MSM addressing some of the points I raised yesterday evening.

Why care homes are the scandal among scandals during the Pandemic:

https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-why-care-homes-are-the-scandal-among-scandals-during-this-pandemic-11971795

Government must be 'completely honest' about COVID-19 deaths because 'we really don't know the full picture':

https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-uk-deaths-will-almost-certainly-pass-10-000-this-weekend-11971793

However, it does not feel like that figure (20) is entirely accurate so I expect that is due to the lack of testing.

After reading the posts above I cannot disagree with the comments regarding our present situation. My frustration and anger is that this was seen coming, you only have to look at when this thread was started to see when members realised something was happening.

If the government had just bought some of the kit as a precaution back in December/January and made some limited restrictions on flights we would not be in this situation.
The above actions would not of destroyed the economy. I know these points have been made several times already but surely you would think that when you reach the pinnacle of high office this would be a case of common sense.

I know we don’t live in a utopian society and I suppose Trump is a clear reminder of that.

This makes me a tad emotional. We are genuinely living in a history book at the moment.

Last year I was at a beer festival in that building. Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever imagined it would end up being an emergency hospital.

Probably rather poignant for the Tory Government too given it’s where they have held many of their conferences - indeed it’s where Theresa May had her speech from hell.

Do we have any international data on hospital admissions / ICU. In particular I would like to know:

1) Average length of hospital stay by country

2) Average length of ICU stay by country

3) Mortality rate of those admitted to ICU by country

4) Patient data (e.g. average age, sex, underlying health conditions) of ICU patients by country

Quite rightly there was a highly critical response from the healthcare people at that ill-judged comment.  Pretty poor judgement TBH.

Maybe Hancock could be escorted into a COVID-19 ward without full protective gear so he gets a proper grasp of the fear involved.

There really is no hope, is there ?

It's difficult to understand how someone could have got to that age, and into high office  yet still managed to maintain such an unblemished level of total ignorance over such an incredibly wide array of topics.

The worry is real as are the reasons for the worry, but the problem is the scale of the challenge is monumental and unprecedented. However there is no choice but to give it an unprecedented response along with everything else that is being done. It may be incredible but because of continual demand it is almost certainly never going to be 100% enough.

I don’t disagree with this. As we know this is unprecedented. I think the government should spell this out. Ironically, I’d much rather hear the hard truth of where we are than sound bites and platitudes which we seem to get at these podiums each day.

I think this where I let my frustrations get the better of me. Sometimes a rosier picture is painted than the reality. I’ve always though honesty is the best policy - however hard that is to take

Matt Hancock told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that there was enough personal protective equipment to go around if it was used in line with guidance.

"I don't want to impugn blame on people who have used more PPE than the guidelines suggest because I understand the difficulties in the circumstances," he said.

"What I would say it is very important to use the right PPE and not overuse it."

Presumably he means the UK guidelines and not the more stringent WHO ones. As far as I'm concerned Hancock has shown himself to be a cretin again.

Yes but there are Pallet freight companies at a standstill due to lack of work so if it is transport logistics  why is not every freight company being contacted to see if they can help. I also think a lot of companies with the ability to tool up to make masks , visors , gloves e.t.c were not asked to help sooner.Once you are behind in a situation like this you are going to really struggle to keep up.

But a dead cert to be re-elected. He brilliantly uses these daily briefings to spend 2 hours trolling the liberal media and talking up the country. He tells lies but that doesn't seem to matter anymore!

I’m working from home and we have an additional night shift on, so we’re working flat out, including over Easter.  Our design and production plans have been shared with other companies and I’m sure many others will have diversified into making PPE but unfortunately, changing to a different product doesn’t happen overnight.
