My wife and I certainly won't be reinstating international holidays this summer. In all honesty I doubt whether we will risk going anywhere in the UK either.

After today's exercise walk I have come to the conclusion that the MAJORITY of runners are just a bunch of people who wish to meet you on a Tuesday and the only social spacing is clearly between their ears. Today I witnessed runners forcing people into hedges, crossing single track bridges with families already crossing them and on one occasion actually kicking a dog out of their way. I am fed up with it to be honest, and I along with a few others started shouting at them. Saying that they can't hear you as the majority have their headphones on.

With there being so little traffic it is fairly easy to just run down the road most of the time. TBH a lot of the people i have seen out are relatively young and seem relatively relaxed. Have had two people say something to me, one person complained i wasnt two metres away from him but he had continued walking down the middle of the pavement as i approached while i was right on the outside. The other one checked their phone as i went past and staggered sideways towards me, then started shouting at me. I think both don't seem to realise that it isnt the sole responsibilty of the other person to be 2 metres away but that you both have to do your bit.

Its not like people are even on a vital training session ahead of their main race in a week's time which could tempt you to be a bit more self-focussed than you should be. I think that running races will take a long time to start up again. My marathon has been rearranged to be in October but a marathon involves getting many thousands of people from around the country into a small area (at least in the early stages) where they will be breathing heavily. That doesn't sound like the kind of activity which will be in one of the first phases of the release from lockdown.

Is this the same WHO that said face masks were not worth wearing for most people?

I’m not exaggerating when I say I barely saw a soul. For a salt of the earth, inner city area, that is damned impressive. The rules, by and large, are being adhered to. If they are here, I’d imagine they are in most places.

From a London perspective i wonder what will happen to people going on the tube? The morning and evening rush hours normally see people packed into coaches for over an hour and this really is a virus breeding ground. I guess that many people will continue working from home where they can (a lot of people will be well set up now),  anything approaching normal service would likely see another wave. People are very aware of this though, i think that the graphs they show in the daily briefing show that tube usage dropped quicker than other forms of transport.

Hubby was watching the news this morning and he said cruises seem to be in demand at a premium price.  I find it strange that people are booking now, when we don’t know what tomorrow will bring and I wouldn’t book anything that far in advance in case the company went bust.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing so let's avoid it. If everyone else is wearing face masks Brits will want them too. Therefore, let's make sure we're not at the back of the queue. The UK government needs to urgently:

a) review its advice on face masks because it will almost certainly (rightly or wrongly) be forced to change it - so why not get ahead of the game now?

b) provide advice on types of face mask

c) take measure to ensure people aren't ripped off when buying them

d) possibly use its buying power to purchase them in bulk for the UK population (I'm not talking FFP3 which is where the shortage is for medical staff)

Wearing face masks 'will become the norm'

Wearing facial protection will soon become normal, according to the World Health Organization's Covid-19 spokesman David Nabarro.

Speaking on Radio 4's Today programme, Nabarro said people had to come to terms with the new reality of living with the virus.

"This virus is not going to go away. We don't know whether people who have had the virus stay immune and we don't know when we will have a vaccine," he said.

"Some form of facial protection I am sure is going to become the norm, not least to give people reassurance. I think it will come because of what I am calling being Covid-19-ready."

Don't think we'll be able to do it (end of July/beginning of August) but, with hindsight, it's amongst the 'safest' arrangements we could have chosen.

John the guidance is from the WHO and the government are just going by that.

Some of the cabinet apparantly want to start and ease restrictions during the meeting on Thursday. No word as to what they want to reopen as yet.
