Tomasz Sch ... you-know-who on Weather for the Week ahead last night showing tropical storm Bill linking up with low over Canada (as mentioned, I think, in one of Stormchaser's posts elsewhere) leading to a forecast of warm and humid air being drawn up from the south to the UK as ex-Bill takes up position off Ireland in 7-10 days' time - but withcautionary note that models don't handle tropical disturbances at all well when they reach the Atlantic.

'Warm and humid' - promising for a thundery breakdown shortly after? Here's hoping for a good storm or two.

I see from the Countryfile forecast that it is due to warm up here by Friday with a high of 13°C (after a max of 11°C on Wednesday). I'd better get the BBQ uncovered and the decking defrosted.

I wouldn't get too excited about max temps here around 18c, just think we're near the equinox now and the sun will start losing it's strength in a few days time!

Becoming rather unsettled through Sunday and into next week with a band of cloud and rain moving across the UK. Parts of the southeast will hang onto the warmer and drier conditions, whilst northwestern parts will see persistent, and at times heavy rain and stronger winds. Another drier interlude later Monday and into Tuesday for the majority of the UK, although it looks likely that further spells of rain will push in from the southwest midweek. This trend continues through the remainder of the period with further unsettled spells interspersed with drier, brighter conditions, with the best of the drier weather always in the south and east. Temperatures will generally be warm in the southeast, perhaps very warm for a time, but nearer normal in the northwest.

Guess you forgot to highlight this part, Stone Cold.

Though their use of 'southeast' and 'northwest' is rather ambiguous - especially for those of us who live in neither the southeast or the northwest!

I'm not predicting thunderstorms. Too hit and miss. I am predicting people will soon be moaning about not being able to sleep. !00% reliable prediction every time the mercury rises. Bring on the heat!

Seems that this bit of real summer-like weather is quite nailed on, so it'll all be down to fine tunings as we get nearer to the proposed time frame.

I saw something from Las Vegas recently showing the temperature of numerous surfaces.. tarmac was heated to 167F! That burns human skin instantly. Dry heat can be easier than humid heat but with a high sun angle combined with very clear skies, the sun will be absolutely searing. It's a different kind of heat entirely - and not necessarily more pleasant.

Leeds has never had a 20C night so no worries there. Even if it rises to 33C, it falls away quickly after midnight. Our warmest is usually 17-19C.

Can't believe a thread started in Feb is still going! Anyway, i used to do nightshift and found it easy to get to sleep in a flat with no through drafts during the day in west London when it was +30c outside. In fact, the wife would come to wake me and I'd be wrapped up in the duvet. Getting to sleep was so much easier because it was at its coolest at that time of day.
