What a load of tosh, how can London get a good covering of snow yet here in E.Yorks we got drizzle for an hour or so this afternoon...!! I was led to believe that large cities were heat islands and rarely got snow...at least that was the case when I lived in Manchester for 9yrs...there is a slight possibility that we may get some snow showers overnight but I doubt it, we live in a 'snow go' region, flat farmland surrounded by hills and next to a warmer than average N.Sea, and this supposed Arctic blast is going to last all of 2 days...!!! then it's back to westerlies and double figure temps and rain, which we get plenty of...freakin great...to say I'm slightly miffed is an understatement...

You know, it's totally out of character, but I've found myself smiling at the snow reports from darn sarf - and even being pleased for them. I think it's age; I'm getting old & senile.

Rubbish here for Exeter too - unless you like soft hail ...what's most frustrating was that whenever the showers came the temperature would pop up to above 3+ c and thus turning any sleet or graupel back into rain. So we ended up with wintry showers instead of any wet snow. - exactly the same as Feb 2016 one night and the year before - however, the only comfort is that this is only January and we have another pending cold spell waiting next week, as opposed to last winter when the cold snaps were only one day events - but so far this has been bad for lowland areas of the south west if you want snow. it's hardly event got below +3c yet and it's 1:15am. Terrible, also the fact that these soft hail showers' have occurred at night so it's not like you can observe it in daylight . It's no fun at night! We need wintry showers during the daytime when we are awake. Today was just cold rain for the SW anyway.

Not happy with this so far - hope the easterly would provide something more if not in Feb.

Grrrr!  That's not Brrr, it's Grrrrr!  Nothing more frustrating than breakfast telly showing 'the snow mayhem' when we haven't had a flake!  The grass isn't always greener on the other side! It's whiter!

So all the rain washed any snow away. We only really got the precipitation in the mild sector. Very frustrating but not unexpected.

Absolutely disgusting. The last supposed cold spell was utter crap but at least it produced a snow lying day. This pile of garbage has hit an all time low.

God knows why the hell a weather warning was issued because there is absolutely nothing outside and it's not even cold. Temperature up to 4C overnight and still mild now for the time of day at 2.4C. Vile wind rattling away that has resulted in yet another poor night's sleep.

An epic fail from the models. Where are the -3C temps predicted by GFS for NE Scotland http://old.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn0617.gif

It's beyond a joke how things could have sunk to such a desperate state where dross like this passes for cold. It is absolutely not a cold spell and this winter has been completely devoid of cold. With more utter dross coming next week it has to be asked if this is on course to be the mildest and least frosty winter on record? It certainly seems like it. Just a total write-off that is making the last two atrocities seem cold and snowy by comparison.

This laughable cold spell is just the final straw for me when it comes to enduring the never ending onslaught of complete and utter trash that makes up the most revolting climate on earth

All in all, a rather p*ss-poor attempt at a cold spell.

Well if that was winter, it's worse than 2015/16.

I suppose I should be thankful for small mercies but after waiting for over six years for lying snow my soon to be evaporated effort from last night could be the last of the season if (and it's a big if ) the longer range models verify.

one half inch slush event does not a winter make (or perhaps it does in the modern winter;)) but i don't think calling winter over is the call with such a very quiet atlantic across most models.

Now there is a band of snow approaching, but my PWS says 2.4C. So I'm not getting too excited.

We had NO snow in Fulham just heavy rain yesterday and reading the poster's comments in the model output thread I get the distinct impression we have missed our chance snow for London for the rest of the month. I wouldn't be a bit surprised that one the Atlantic ramps up in a week or so time that's it for the rest of the meteoligical winter.

This post might ruffle the feathers amongst us Kent massive, but I'm LOLing at some people really properly losing their sh1t - and I mean those "This is the worst winter EVER, when will it stop???" kind of people on my facebook wall - over a couple of short flurries here at this end of Kent. Granted, my own coastal location got off lightly compared to inland hilly areas and some roads are being dicey at the moment but that's due to the 25 mm of yesterday's rain turning into ice overnight rather than the snowfall itself.

If that 25 mm of rain all fell as snow yesterday, then that would end up being a much more noteworthy event in my books - but the fact that it hadn't so I guess it was a pointless statement on my part. However, for now at least I can say that I did get to see an actual snowfall but only so that I don't feel left out.

Get back to me when we have a 12th Jan '87 type event. That was properly something to show off.

PS: It is snowing again, but with an air temp of 3.2 and dewpoint close to freezing, I can't see it settling.
