Strange. There was a school play planned at my grandchildren's school last Monday evening and we were all planning to go to watch my granddaughter in it. On Sunday, the school contacted all the parents to say it was cancelled in the light of corona virus. So I am surprised the cinema trip is going ahead.

That was Cummings plan all along. Wipe out the weak and economically inactive, a fitter, younger nation will emerge from the ashes to take on the world post Brexit

That is very interesting indeed. It is the sort of testing I am suggesting should be happening in the UK. Presumably there will be an authoritative write up somewhere on what has happened there. It will provide valuable information for all countries.

If that's true there will be no one left in Russia. The rest of them were topped in 1917.

Schools are potentially like a neutron bomb. I'm hearing they are likely to close this Friday. Quite why we're p1ssing about like this over a few days is beyond me. 

She does get it as do most of us on here. It's quite simple really, we just need vulnerable groups to self isolate. 

It's also possible many people will find a slower pace of life more pleasurable. On the other hand we could go back to consumption frenzy very quickly once this is all over. I don't know.

Education is one of the most important things in life. I think the coronavirus epidemic will educate kids far more about the world they are inheriting than a few months or even years of school will. 

Giving more chance to spread. I think sufficient spread has already happened so the Cummings plan will work whatever happens at the end of the week

The young chavs in the pub last night were totally oblivious to the crisis and messing around on Instragram and gossiping about who was shagging who

I understand that but logistically how feasible is that? In some cases yes but how many hundreds of thousands (millions?) of people are there who fall into those vulnerable categories? I suspect that for many of them avoiding contact with either school children or school staff will be almost impossible. 

Schools are a place where illness spreads incredibly quickly. We are at the stage where the virus is spreading through the country and in effect we are allowing virus factories full of super spreaders to remain open.

Caz - but keeping the schools open is opposite to social distancing 

Because there has been conflicting advice about the effects of school closure. This is not an exact science. Swedish schools are still open too.

It beats me why people are not more furious that proper travel restrictions were not brought in at an early stage - that was the real failing for all European countries.

What about the US? Trump is a nationalist and isolationist. Nonetheless it seems as though corona is well rooted there too.
