Good update - with even the NW having 'a little above average' temperatures. Could be a lot worse I'm sure.

Apple WeatherChannel app: 23C


 


Current temperature at 11.20am: 18C


 


I imagine 21C will be today's high, so it's amazing how inaccurate all these predictions can be, even just 3 or 4 hours before.


 


So it's all to play for on Wednesday!

I know there's often a North/south divide on summer weather, but this is really setting up to be amplified this summer. It has been the case up to now

Quite a temperature gradient in eastern Scotland forecast late Wednesday afternoon on the attached model - 13c off Peterhead and 30c in Inverness!! WoW! 17c range in about 90 miles!!! Same if you compare John o Groats with Cape Wrath !!

BBC had 30c for both Leeds and Manchester but now 29C for both. Usually not that accurate anyway.

WRF-NMM does indeed show 32C here - seems too high. 31C is possible.

so, ITV have issued an article talking about the impact of the 'heatwave'.

It includes this line

The sharp rise in temperatures this week is set to bring with it a sudden spike in pollen count and UV levels, a meterologist has warned.



So, which 'meteorologist' has made a correlation between air temperature and sun strength? None, I'd hope. In fact, on hot, humid days I'd suggest the UV radiation levels will be lower than on a fresh, clear NW wind in the UK.

Pretty much in line with what the ECM mean is showing and also the CFS for July as shown by Gav yesterday. A nice July with occasional hot spells sounds fine to me.

Several of us have made the point about Heathrow giving warped figures. It's too often the highest figure for it to not be influenced by its surroundings.

When you look at the site's that record the hottest temperature of any given year, it looks like there's a fair scattering to me?

If there was something seriously amiss you would think Heathrow would be recording the highest temperature of the year, every year? Or do they sometime's take Heathrow out of the official recording if that temperature looks too OTT?

(Which I admit I frequent myself because I am interested in climatology but prefer to avoid indulging in the playground silliness that fills about 80% of the topics there).
